Mission Control
Commit everything you do to the Lord; trust Him; and He will help you. Psalm 37:5 (NLT)
If you’ve visited the National Aeronautic and Space Administration’s Johnson Space Center in Houston–the training base and home to our nation’s astronauts and the site of Mission Control Center, where a talented cadre of flight controllers support the work of our men and women in space–you were probably dazzled to sit in the historic Mission Operations Control Room from which NASA led Gemini and Apollo missions, including the momentous first lunar landing mission as well as early space shuttle missions. Did your memory retrieve echoes of televised communication between Houston and space beamed from that very room–the thrill of it all?
Who is your Mission Control Commander? On the brink of Canaan, Moses reminded his wilderness flock of God’s providence through the years, emphasizing that His loving decrees merit enthusiastic loyalty and trust. Summing up, Moses counseled:
“Look, I now teach you these decrees and regulations just as the Lord my God commanded me,
so that you may obey them in the land you are about to enter and occupy.
Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations.
When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim,
‘How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’
For what great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us whenever we call on Him?
And what great nation has decrees and regulations as righteous and fair
as this body of instructions that I am giving you today?
But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen.
Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live!
And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.
Never forget the day when you stood before the Lord your God at Mount Sinai.” Deuteronomy 4:5-10
“Wisdom is not what you know about the world but how well you know God. Human reasoning will not make you wise. It may even lead you to reject the ways of God (1 Cor. 1:18-25). God’s purpose in creating a nation for Himself was to demonstrate His wisdom to the world through the obedience of His people (Zechariah 8:23). As the Israelites followed God, He would bless them, and the wisdom of obeying God would be evident to all.” (Henry and Richard Blackaby, “Experiencing God,” p. 92)

In conclusion
“God gives you the same opportunity [as He gave the Israelites] to base your life on His wisdom. When unbelievers make important decisions, they must rely on their own knowledge and understanding. You, as a Christian, have access to God’s wisdom. God’s Spirit is within you to guide you (John 16:13). The Holy Spirit will open your eyes to the truth of the Scriptures so that you can see things from God’s perspective. Only God knows the future, so only He can accurately lead you to make correct decisions today. . . . Your family will be blessed because you make wise decisions. Your friends will have a wise counselor to come to for help. Your obedient life will demonstrate the wisdom of allowing the Holy Spirit to be your Guide” (ibid)
Let God’s wisdom, shining through your obedience, light others’ pathway to Jesus, Forever Family!
Your Keene Church Pastors
God of our fathers, whose almighty hand
Leads forth in beauty all the starry band
Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,
Our grateful songs before Thy throne arise.
Thy love divine hath led us in the past,
In this free land by Thee our lot is cast;
Be Thou our ruler, guardian, guide and stay,
Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.
From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense;
Thy true religion in our hearts increase,
Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.
Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way,
Lead us from night to never-ending day;
Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,
And glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.
(Daniel C. Roberts)
