Blameless
There was once a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless–a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. Job 1:1
Blameless. . . Does that mean perfect? Apparently not, because the suffering Job cries out in chapter 19:25, “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand upon the earth.” Job feared God, shunned evil, prayed for his children, cared for his livestock–and, like the rest of us, was a sinner who needed redemption. Yet the Bible describes him as blameless. It’s what we do about our inevitable sin that makes us blameless and builds integrity. “He who covers his sins will not prosper,” said the wise man in Proverbs 28:13, “but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” Here’s a happy reminder of our covenant relationship with God that underlies the moral and spiritual lessons of repentance and the cleansing release of forgiveness (1 John 1:8-9). The apostle Paul, encountering Felix, said: “I have hope in God . . . that there will be a resurrection from the dead, both of the just and the unjust. And for this, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God or man.” (Acts 24:15, 16)
When King David hit bottom, confronted by the prophet Nathan about his lurid tumble from one sin to another, and then another, he had no place to go but to stand and look up.
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.
Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.
For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night.
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.
For I was born a sinner–yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.
But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.
Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me–now let me rejoice.
Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.
Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves;
Then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness.
Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.
You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one.
You do not want a burnt offering.
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. . . . (Psalm 51:1-17)

In conclusion
God knows you, and He has chosen you for a purpose. Of course you are free to reject Him, but if you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive you and make you clean (blameless). (1 John 1:9) Remember Jacob, fleeing from home and family on a lonely night, guilt nipping at his heels for deceiving his father and stealing from his brother? Uncomfortably resting his head on a stone, he fell asleep and “dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. . . . At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and He said, ‘I am the Lord the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants . . . I am with you, and will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.’ Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it.” (Genesis 28:13-14, 15-16) God gave the same promise to Jacob as He had to Abraham and Isaac!
Be aware that God is with you, friend! He remembers His covenant with you. Reach out and grasp His assurance today!
Your Keene Church Pastors
Nearer, My God to Thee
Nearer, my God to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be.
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
There let my way appear
Steps unto heaven;
All that Thou sendest me
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Then with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Or if on joyful wing,
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upward I fly,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
